Regarding UPS. Anytime Unions get a large increase in wages, time off, etc in new contracts for workers the companies paying out lay-off just enough people to cover the increased costs in that new contract. From general manufacturing, shipping, to aerospace industry.
But, being "laid-off" has it's benefits too.

As a union, if this is a problem for your workers, you have the power to strike. Exercise your market power to prevent predatory practices. Company owners can fire their employees, but a union can essentially fire the owners by withholding their labor.
They got too big fo their briches. As most Unions do then they cry. Yall made your bed no lay in it.
