Laos is a really secure nation to journey.. when you’re not sharing the highway with these truck drivers! It isn’t the vehicles which might be harmful, it is the drivers. Time after time on our travels all through Laos we far too typically see them crashed off the highway, overtaking on blind corners and driving method too quick for the highway situations. Which in flip destroys the roads making it extra harmful to drive on. Unquestionably these drivers are the REAL DANGER in Laos!
That is what makes Laos a harmful place to journey

Totally agree !! I have driven the main and back roads there. Certainly, the big (BIG) potholes are an issue – but the (big) BIG trucks are dangerous, and stressful. I like the back roads, with no trucks best. 🙂

Believe it or not my visit Vang Vieng in 1999 there was little the to even call it a village. We. had to find someone to open a cabin there. The blue lagoon was so small only about 2-3 people could get in. No place to eat there so we had to walk up the road a small place to eat. All Lao food. Only way we got anything done was my wife is Lao.I have been many times and it seems to worse. But that's the way the world gos. The Chinese will kill it all. A casino on the old CIA airstrip.
Out of curiosity, do the drivers of those large trucks require a special license? Here in the US, you need to have a commercial driver's license (CDL) and different certifications for different trucks and payloads. Some of those drivers are quite dangerous behind the wheel considering the road conditions, weather, and little consideration for others on the road. 🙏👍

Main reason for the poor condition of the roads are the government doesn’t have money enough to reconstruct and expand that road across Laos to Vietnam
Besides you can only keep a speed approximately 45-50km/h

Hi Todd, don't they have any weight limits on those roads? They drive like there are no rules of the roads. Do they have road toll fees like Australia and America ?

Great vlog. Start in the pool end in the pool. Mina mermaid has get to be wrinkled but not from the water it the road. Going to have gray hair, too. All those check points along the way don't slow down the trucks. Great flyover always so nice. Have great night. Safe travels on Sunday, Todd Neenee and young Mina.
Having actually driven this road in October 2023 but in reverse fashion from Kasi to Phou Koun I will say Todd we loved the views of Sky mountain and it brought it all home to us. This is such a climb but for you a decline that most people have no idea of. Those bloody Chinese Semi Trailers are so many in number and honestly we could not believe there would be that many on the roads up there. We cannot wait to drive back up there mate.
