Building and running a project site in the middle of the Ho Ch Minh trail saturated in US aerial ordinance ranging from cluster bombs to 1000 pounders, interviewing dozens of employees often carrying Air America competency certificates, the constantly used βbor pen yangβ – no worries phrase, the animist ethnic group we worked amongst, the Re-education Camps that were still running, and the continuing US MIA program. Amazing place and resilient people

A friend back in the 60's, an Air Force load master on cargo planes, said that the CIA was flying drugs around S.E. Asia in black airplanes, maybe Flying Tiger Airlines, to support their nefarious activities or proxies. We thought he was telling a tall tale. You ,and other references to this, make his statement creditable. At the time he was flying a triangle between Saigon, Bangkok, and Taiwan. Inability to pronounce a countries' name or find it on a map should preclude military involvement. A USA ambassador to the region at the time said that our refusal to back one of the last popular Laotian Royal Princes was a big mistake.
