Tucked in the midst of mainland Southeast Asia, Laos is the landlocked neighbor of among the world’s most visited international locations. Residence to lower than eight million individuals, Laos is commonly forgotten, and its meals is nearly fully unknown- aside from the dishes that seem in all places as Thai meals. Lao delicacies is tough to outline; the product of a rustic with 240 totally different ethnic teams and a pure atmosphere in contrast to wherever else. So we spent three days in and across the nationwide capital making an attempt to determine the story of the native dishes, substances, and historical past, and to attempt to reply the query: what’s Lao meals?

Location pins for this video (and a few extras that we didn't film but I'd highly recommend to anyone visiting Vientiane):
– (EDIT) I need to add this note- one thing that's extremely disappointing is the several comments we've received from Lao people critical (or worse) of the first guest for speaking Thai in the interview. 1) The languages are close, 2) many people (her included) have lived on both sides of the border, 3) sometimes people can speak multiple languages, and 4) WE speak Thai, so out of courtesy, she replied to our (Thai-language) questions in Thai, for our sake. To attack someone for this reason is pathetic, and extremely disappointing. Enough.
– (EDIT) One note: as we've had a few people ask already, best way to get a copy of the cookbook is contacting hello@doikanoi.com via e-mail. I cannot recommend it strongly enough; it's an achievement and maybe my favorite cookbook I own.

When I drank, beer Lao was one of my favorites.
I think this woman is not knowledgeable about her country's food culture. She couldn't explain the food of her country very well.
Don't mixed the language thai . Laos thai migraint from china but laos is a native in the area
OMG!!! Great Job! I cannot give you enough credit. Gives me so much pride and joy to watch this. The pride and gratitude Chef Yia shows as a hmong man brings me tears of joys. We are finally being heard around the world. 🙏🙏🙏
Welcome to Laos 🇱🇦 ❤️
My first introduction of Loas people was when I was growing up, there was a Loas neighbor about 2 or 3 blocks in my neighborhood. They would sun dry lots of chilli peppers in the front yard which at the time I thought was strange. I can only imagine their culture cuisine is super spicy. I have not tried them but that is my thinking. Their food looks very delicious.
Khmer 🇰🇭❤love yall 🇱🇦
Thai Isan food and Lao food may look similar, but the methods and steps for preparing them are different.
You go to Lao every year? Are sure you’re not a Lao person trapped in Caucasian body? lol! 😂 Glad you guys enjoy Lao country. I’ve been back 6 times.
Laos is a country with beautiful culture and nature, and a simple lifestyle. Eating a lot of local food is a key to maintaining good health.
