judging plants by their smell alone at some random point in their growing cycle is no proper way to judge which strain is better, tastier, or stronger, but im sure they know that. The more potent strains don't taste like (for example) banana and strawberry and all those popular flavors, more potent and natural landrace strains can taste bitter, herbal, spices, earth, and much more. They are likely missing out on the true dank and super potent strains by walking past so many. Also locals would never divulge the best local strains as they dont want the genetics spreading.
