Dr. Fred Gandolfo, a board licensed gastroenterologist, reveals how a big polyp is eliminated throughout a routine screening colonoscopy. Polyps like this may flip into colon most cancers if not eliminated. Colon most cancers screening is really useful at age 45 for the average-risk man or lady. Because of this when you’ve got no household historical past of colon or rectal most cancers, and haven’t any signs like rectal bleeding, weight reduction, belly ache, change in bowel habits, and haven’t any high-risk life-style components like weight problems, smoking, or alcohol use, you need to STILL get a colonoscopy at age 45 to forestall your self from getting colorectal most cancers!

What is the processor and scope?
I'm 43 years old and had my first colonoscopy yesterday. The doctor found and removed two small polyps in my colon. He was confident they were benign and assured me that I need not worry. The polyps are being sent in for analysis just as a precaution and the results should take between 2-4 weeks. I am concerned that they could be malignant or precancerous. Should I worry? Is it normal for a 43 year old to have polyps?
Oh wow, that was quick
Thanks for the helpful information. This is so much better than disinformation on the ignorant and incompetent r/colonoscopy. But the infamous reddit site is generally a sewer anyway…
I am 64, and scheduled to have my first colonoscopy in a few weeks..I am hopeful all will be well and have done a cologuard a few years back but am glad I am doing this after watching this video. Thoughts and prayers to everyone to stay healthy and well by doing your check ups to monitor your health and well-being.
you really had to go and grap that polyp hehe ๐
Thanks so much for this video! You just opened my eyes literally, l I will request a colonoscopy to my Internist . ๐
So cool. I had my first Colonoscopy at 60, they found over 40 polyps of various sizes. All benign. The prep was awful but so glad i had the procedure.
why do they not use this screening in UK,aus, canada and france
I had a rhabdoid tumour removed from my ascending colon at 65
After a life of exercise and being a health nut,it was the last thing i expected.
No preserved meats, very little meat ,no sugar, wholemeals only and stacks of veggies
I was stll doing kickboxing at 65

Pet scan and colonoscopy -ve but cancer markers are still up after folfox 6
i love science
Great video and explication.
But what causes these polyps in the first place, and how can polyps be prevented from forming?

My then 26 yr old son had a colonoscopy for an unrelated issue but they found quite a few pre cancerous polyps in him and the surgeon was shocked as he was so young. It is hereditary in our family but the grandchildren were not being screened, only us older ones. So now, all the of the grandkids have to have them as frequently as us. The surgeon told us that my son would have had full blown bowel cancer by his mid 30โs if it wasnโt found. We lost my uncle to it at 60, and him dying saved my mum, she has had it twice and has a stoma bag but no cancer now and is 87. So the whole family have what we call buttcam, which isnโt so bad, itโs the revolting crap that you have to drink prior that we all hate.
I had my first colonoscopy 2 years ago and there was nothing found. My younger brother has to have one every 5 years and each time they do they have to remove polyps and send them off for tests.
Great video, I am 64, have had 2 screenings so far. No polyps ever found. My two siblings have both been full of them. Not sure why I have never had one even, but I'll take it.
Thanks for the video. I just had five polyps removed in this weekโs colonoscopy. Waiting on the pathology results. Your video shows how easy the procedure is. If only the night before flush drink tasted like bacon instead of a nasty lemonade.
Do yor find tape worms
Oh wow ๐ฎ
How many mm was this polyp?
Doctor, you are doing a great job educating people by posting these videos. I am a 46 yo female about to have the procedure done. I am very scared of going under deep sedation and of what the colonoscopy will reveal, but i need to be strong :). Do you mind answering do you always do these under deep sedation or conscious sedation is an option? Thank you.
Every how many years do i need to make colonoscopy ?
Wow.. I just had my 1st colonoscopy yesterday, and I'm 46. My Dr found one 5mm and sent to lab. I'm glad that I got done despite that nasty drink ๐
Thanks
Did a colonoscopy at 20 years old, luckily nothing found, but damn the gas bloating afterwards was highly painful and persistent. Still prefer that to a gastroscopy though, though the whole "only drink water/broth and take laxatives the day before" wasn't a fun experience either.
This made a polyp removal look so simple, easy and fast, haha. But I guess it's a low risk kind of "surgery".
Makes me think of the song, Somebody I Used to Know by Goyte. "But you didn't have to cut me off. Make out like it never happened and that we were nothin'
And I don't even need your love, But you treat me like a stranger, and that feels so rough"
I'm thirty eight and i'm having my mind done In a couple of weeks
Doctor, why was there no bleeding at all when you cut the polyp?
I'm in the UK and I had one about 3 weeks ago. You don't get anesthetic, you have the option of being sedated, but I chose not to be sedated as I didn't want the restrictions on what you are able to do for the rest of the day. I just used the gas and air, Entonox. I felt fine for the rest of the day and I was able to drive. Some people even drive themselves to the hospital for the procedure.
Thank God you located that in time for this patient! Thank you for this video! ๐๐๐
I had a 4cm villous adenoma removed. I woke up during the sedation due to the pain when he was cutting away at the polyp. I am to have a repeat colonoscopy at the one year anniversary.
I canโt ever forget the pain I felt during the procedure as I regained consciousness midstream.
I was told it could easily return
Thanks for the video explaining how the stalk is formed as stool pushes downwards.
My experience is that it took much longer to burn the polyp off so that it be removed.
The question I would appreciate if you could answer is how many centimetres was that polyp in the video
well dam im 45 yrs old and Im having my first preventative colonoscopy tomorrow. there is a hx of my colon polyps in my family so im hoping i dont have any.
Excellent video doctor. Glad you were able to eliminate that polyp before turning cancerous.
There is a big problem arising in my home, my mom got blood poop. She discovered she had colon cancer, so I trying my level best to get her best treatment, but I needed more guidance from the medical professionals in our community. If you know any medical specialists, it would be great to help me take the next step to save her life.
I've had 5 colonoscopies. 1st and 5th ones a polyp was found. 1st one I was 28 years old. Colon cancer runs rampid on the maternal side of my family. My mom died of colon cancer the same year as my 1st colonoscopy. Had I not had that first procedure, I wouldn't be here today. I strongly recommend having this procedure done. The worst part of this ordeal is the prep. It's better than dying of this wretched disease. The procedure is the prevention over the cure.
Had my second colonoscopy today . Iโm 50 . This video is so well done and clear and to the point ! Thank you ! ๐
I am so nervous. I donโt know if I have ibs or something worst. Iโm going to ask my doctor to see if I can have a colonoscopy done. ๐ Iโm 33
I have three polyps that are flat, 20mm in really difficult awkward positions.
