ross perot is the definition of chad. Imagine just deciding you want to be president randomly one day with no political experience or party backing you and being a serious contender for president. Now imagine people decide they want you to be president randomly under the same conditions, not wanting to, and only loosing because you dropped out halfway through to protect your daughter. I’m guessing you are familiar with the fact that there have been successful “third” parties before in US history that eventually just replaced a failing party? I wish electing a 3rd party candidate would dismantle the two-choices-only model, but the framers of the constitution expected there to be NO political parties ever in the US and admitted the only risk to the government they’d designed was the rise of factions or political parties. The way the constitution works, it’s simply not feasible for a third party candidate to win the electoral votes needed to win. If we had a vote purely based on national popular vote it’s a different story, same as if we had a parliamentary system where you could vote far left/right or moderate left/right and basically casting a vote not only for your representative but for their whole party platform, cognizant of the fact that you’re in a strategic alliance with another party that might not share your view of how things should be in the future but at least a shared view of the current problem.

My first full-time job was at a US subsidiary of a Indian subsidiary of a mega Japanese conglomerate all of which was owned by Ross Perot. He was only alive for about my first 5 weeks there but the company newsletter often featured snipets from him. And their software was definitely tech from 1991 and had in big bold letter "Perot Systems" when you booted anything up.
