Laos Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone will make his first official go to to Singapore tomorrow (9 July). His go to coincides with the fiftieth anniversary of diplomatic relations. As the present ASEAN Chair, Laos is about to host the International Ministers’ Conferences on the finish of July. Mr Siphandone will meet Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and obtain a ceremonial welcome at Parliament Home. The leaders will witness two signings within the areas of carbon credit and schooling cooperation. Leong Wai Package appears on the rising people-to-people ties between Singapore and Laos.

Why does Singapore persist in pushing for trade agreements when Western appetite for suchneoliberal-style globalisation has diminished? One answer is that the PAP has little choice, it doesn’t know what else to do. It is a one-trick pony that hasn’t learned to adapt to a changing environment.
