Do n' blames Laos because most of the hostels in Laos are running by the Vietnamese plus the hostels are offering a few free shots to the tourists as to keep them not to go out to local bars and spend money for laos people, but couldn't believe they could put something into the drinks and killed them.

These crappy little homemade bars try to ferment and distill their own alcohol all around the world without the proper knowledge and equipment. Methanol is absolutely a huge issue with this ineptitude. Do NOT drink alcohol where you cannot see the bottle that it comes from . Ever.

In laos, there's a history of locals poisoning foreigners drink. This time it's international news when the victims have white hairs and blue eyes. In laos, murderers can be set free after a few months if they pay a small fine. It's a country where life has no meaning and money is truly king.
When I went to live in SE Asia my friends warned me about the alcohol and said to stick to beer or bottled drinks unless you trust the place.

I was in Vang~Vieng, touring many cities in Laos & Thailand years ago, had an awesome time but I personally don’t drink alcohol or anything if I was not the person to open the bottle. The same goes to traveling anywhere around the world, I just traveled all over Europe visiting over 10 cities and 5 countries, I was careful as usual. As human, you have to be cautious and careful of whatever you eat, drink, consume and your surroundings. I feel so sorry to hear of this tragedy, my condolences to the family and friends that have passed🙏🏼May their souls RIP😇
