The purpose of the belt and road, is not to make money, but for infrastructure to be in place so China can supply itself and continue to trade in the event of war with US. If China invades Taiwan, and U.S. and allies block China seaborne trade, China can still trade since it built up all this infrastructure for itself and its neighbors overland. It would be useless to have a beautiful big highway to Kyrgyzstan, only for it to turn into a dirt road as soon as it gets to Kyrgyzstan. Also Kyrgistan is small market, you want to have a highway that’s smooth from China to kyrgistan and beyond. I’m just using Kyrgyzstan as an example, China is doing the same with all its neighbors.
Belts and roads built by typical Chinese tofu-dreg construction. Then be required to repay China with interest. How could it be otherwise? Construction in China is falling apart wholesale. Lotsa luck.
China gets huge subsidies cos they are deemed an underdevelopd nation and China lends out the money at 5%.plus charges for all the work and materials supplied by China,,,,,,Chinas dams are falling down,Chinas dams are falling down Chinas dams are falling down my fair lady and railways to nowhere
Hambatota Port, is one if the best deals, but its been highly propagandize. By 2016 Sir Lanka debt to china was only 10% of it total debt. 90% was to other western institution. There was never a deal to exchange money for the Port, The new government just decided to offer Concention which a Chinese company paid 1.6 billion dollars . Which was used to pay Europe bond creditors.. its a sad to see the level of ignorance.
I really love USA so much but its pains to see the level of delusional lies and propaganda, china built the Railway in Angola from almost zero the colonial one had been totally destroyed by the wars/ Civil war. Chinese engineer's were killed by landmines, during reconstruction of the railway. America took over yhe this for 30 years at only 250 Million dollars. China spent 1.8 billion dollars to the railway. How is this fair to Angola?
This podcast spread crap,China build US bomb what you said is IMF LOAN is much higher not China
They are armatures at waste. We Americans can blow a trillion on nothing in a few months.
2000 years ago, Qin Shi Huang (259-210BC), the first emperor of China initiated many built projects in a short period of time. The empire(Qin dynasty) could not sustain the financial and labor burdens. Revolutions errupted in different places. His empire ended in just 15 years. Right now, China's overbuilt (buldinds, hi-speed trains, military, plus many other things) as well as the Belt and Road projects have exerted huge loads over the country. The situation looks more and more pessimistic.
Complete western propaganda against China
So the Silk Road is not a new idea.
If you want to prosper you need to build.
Tosh!
I'm neither a gambler or investor. But, if I was, I can assure you, I would not invest one cent in any part of Africa. It was a net loss to colonial Europe in the 18th and 19th Centuries. A loss to the US and Britain in the 20th and China will loose bigly in the 21st.
Stupid youtube algorithm. It unsubscribed me. I re-subbed. Another great video. Thank you.
More than 150 countries participate in the BRI .
You think they are dumb ?
The new Megaport in Peru will benefit South America for example.
The CCP needs to steal more wealth via the Yuan.
Where does China get the “money” for these “projects?”
Ditto on the thumbs up for Peter Frankopan's book, The Silk Road. I found it incredibly eye opening!
Thanks!
It was always a debt trap.
Nothing more.
How is it possible for China to experience so many project failures without financial consequences? Cheap labor costs do NOT answer the question.
Chinese tofu dreg belt n road projects are dogshit. A chinese built railway station in eastern Europe recently collapsed.
For years I’ve been wondering about Chinese constructions within Africa; this video helped me understand it more, and much more about international political implications. Thanks & Happy New Year, Casey.
Borrow money from a Communist country that has no concept of capitalism, is run more like a dictatorship, and is intent on conquering the world. Makes sense to me.
Come on now you talk all day then say i got to go to another one off your links
Everything China touches turns to s**t.
Don't tell me, let me guess. China would seek countries to establish loans with that were most likely to be unable to repay the loans and probably issue loans that were large enough that the likelihood was that the borrowing countries would likely be unable to repay. We used to call that "predatory lending". The United States of America should have been out there warning nations to avoid this planned Chinese Finger Trap. =PC=
America has an unpayable debt of 35 plus trillion not including compounding interest on the debt. Massive internal problems throughout the US such as 13 million plus illegal immigrants, Billions to Ukraine for nought, credit card debt just to name a few, I could go on. I would rather be in China.
