A Brit backpacker who drank two photographs of alcohol at a hostel in Laos has instructed how she went blind after consuming the suspected methanol-tainted booze.

Is this hostel being held accountable for this? They have obviously been doing this for some time if this poor girl went blind after drinking a free shot there too. What a waste of life! So they did shots before going on a water experience…… that’s the first dumbass decision. The hostel has a restaurant, a bar with free vodka/whiskey shots from 7-9pm every day. The amenities also include a pool to cool down doing hot days! It says they give free alcohol in the description on Google 😂😂😂😂 You gotta be an idiot to book a place that seems like a sleezy bar or night club! How much is a bottle of vodka in Laos??!! £10-£20 tops! Should have bought some premium alcohol from the airport! Instead of taking free shots from a dirty hostel

Don't drink alcohol from bottles with dodgy labels. If you have to drink in third world countries, which probably isn't a good idea, drink importated stuff from a bottle with an intact seal. The local hooch can be lethal, as this case shows

Free is not always safe. Plus you’re a foreigner you know to suspect very well because you’re from the west and should only drink shots and beer from bottles.
I’ve since learned that in this situation, the one thing that can actually save you, believe it or not, is to drink alcohol. Obviously not the same bootleg stuff that made you ill in the first place. But apparently, alcohol can neutralize the effects of the methanol. Obviously, no one would have been aware of that & the last thing you’d want when you’re sick is more alcohol, but it could save your life.
Laos does not have strong strict law and rules and everyone there has their own rules. Not the government.

Fortunately I don't drink alcohol. I do everything sober. White people love to get wasted even when they are travelling on third world countries at 21. But they were young they didn't deserve any of this. RIP. Even though the girl would have never swiped right on me so i feel more empathic for the boys, less for the girls.
I have spent lost of time in vang vieng those bottles of free booze they give out at nannas are fine they sell moonshine everywhere if they where on the river it would have bin from there not the hostel
