April 29, 1965. A squadron of A-4 Skyhawks roars off the deck of USS Ranger and hurtles in the direction of the North Vietnamese coast, their metallic skins glinting within the morning solar. They’re on the most recent mission of the bombing marketing campaign that began almost two months in the past: Operation Rolling Thunder.
The aircrews are aware of their restrictions. Hanoi and Haiphong stay off-limits – a controversial resolution by the politicians again in Washington to keep away from upsetting Soviet and Chinese language intervention.
All of the sudden, a fuzzy warning comes blaring over the radio. The rumors are true: the North Vietnamese have acquired Soviet SA-2 surface-to-air missiles. As trails of smoke streak by way of the sky round them, it’s clear that the enemy is set to present this battle the whole lot they have.
Banking exhausting to evade the missiles, the American pilots spot a menacing squadron of MiGs looming on the horizon. This battle will not be the straightforward victory they’d hoped for. What the White Home had deliberate to be a fast marketing campaign to immediate a swift diplomatic decision is morphing into a posh, grueling battle of wits and can.

When politicians who know nothing of warfare dictate how to conduct a war you get the Vietnam disaster.
Yeah, Fiat G-91, a beautiful light attack jet. On same path of F-86, or Mig-15. Cheers
At 3:34 he says "their bomb bays opened"…f105s didn't have bomb bays.
Wider conflict BS, it could have ended quickly. Like Ukraine
, money involved, criminals.
Quite a lot of similarities between the Vietnam war and the actual Ukraine war.
And again it is not about „freedom“, it’s about 💰!
Us delivers the hardware, Europe, mainly Germany pays Ukraine to pay the leasing payments for the hardware to the US.
Some also say, that it might have to do with the vast (70%) agricultural land owned by 4 US moguls…
Or about the illegal expansion to the east of NATO…
Or maybe to cover up the multiple bio labs located in Ukraine as were still shown on the webpage of the DOD up until April 22…
But who am I to know?
And sure there are no similarities. I haven’t seen any in the European mainstream media outlets.
These would definitely be fake news! Which by the way were the fake news on the labs? The one given by the German chancellor denying that there were any in Ukraine or the spokesperson of DOD who affirmed the existence and that they fear that they fall into enemy hands (shown on c-span)?
Ah yes, the same chancellor of Germany who was standing next to POT(S when he explained they have the means and ways to take out the Russian German gas pipeline…
The gov would never do that all on purpose, right? That’s what we’ve been teached in school and all our lives.
It never fails to surprise me how nations can go to war with unlimited budgets but are unable to look after their most venerable people. Unless we treat people as insects ( the community is more important than individual's and they do not matter) no one is more important than their neighbour, get over it and learn to live together. Learn to walk in other peoples shoes, you will be a better person if you can.
I was on the Ranger in 69/70 attached to VF21. Unbelievable the amount of ordinance that left the deck on every sortie. 😳🇺🇸
As long as the Military Industrial Complex and all of its tentacles exist. We will not learn our lesson. When the persons making the decisions on how to conduct the war have a financial stake in it the same things will happen. Whole generations of young men will go off to die for some BS hill or other piece of territory. Our stated goal of stemming the tide of communism in the domino theory was not realized. 58,840 young Americans gone. Never mind the 100’s of thousands that returned maimed both mentally and physically. General Smedley Butler had it right WAR IS A RACKET. The Racketeers will continue Racketeering.
Politicians make bad decisions, strategies and people. They cost American lives everytime.
MacNamara & Johnson basically used Nam as a "real-life" weapons development program. When they picked the F-4 Phantom over the Vought F-8 U3 Supercrusader, that cost some American pilots their lives. NO MiG had a chance against it. This plane had performance & agility of the (then an idea) mighty F-15.
Thanks for not ruining this channel with a new voice over!
Did you know that America could have easily sided with North Vietnam, and that the war was wholesale ideological genocide?
Has he done a video about Operation Linebacker and Linebacker II?
They fought with a hand tied behind their backs.
There was a special place in hell created for Robert McNamara & raging orfices like him.
He who sows the wind will reap the storm. America had to pay a price that was far too low in Vietnam. The Vietnamese fought for their country and for their lives, US soldiers fought for the profits of the arms industry and against an imaginary communist threat. If they had stayed at home, they could have lived.
Vietnamese Aggression??
Your thumbnail is actually a RC plane breaking apart in the air. I’ve seen that video pop up.
Our military hasn't been " allowed to win" since WWII !!!
Too many restrictions and political proxy infighting that held back Americans from winning the war.
The North Vietnamese didn’t defeat the U.S., the U.S. Congress did.
Robert McNamara was the biggest asset that the enemy ever had…
War machine wants to make money, don't care about men in military, saw documentary Johnson was given list of 100 targets, he started at bottom.of list. Johnsons wife had money in bell helicopters , evil
Operation Rolling Thunder wasn't a failure
it was hamstrung from the start by Political Weakness.
The Tet Offensive was a Victory portrayed as a Disaster and handed to a decimated enemy
by the US news media especially Walter Cronkite.
Victory or defeat is decided by those Reporting the Score !!!
Murican cope and seethe is strong in the comments. You lost because you're not the military superpower that you think you are. If a military loses 10000 aircraft in a war and end up running away, it's definitely not because of lack of trying. Soviets and Vietnamese had you for breakfast and lunch. Soviets provided air defenses and aircraft sufficient to make it truly hurt if USA stepped over a line thus making it impossible for yankee doodles to take the upper hand on the ground. It's no different today, the same Soviet technology and manpower (most engineers in Russia were born and even graduated Soviet citizens) keeps Murica at bay and unless Muricans can somehow manage to cripple Russia by installing pathetic leaders such as Gorbachev and Yeltsin, Murica will be sent back to their own backyard.
Vietnam was hell for all Americans, both on the ground and in the air.
An unwarranted war game between patriotic idealism and imperialist brute force, supported by vested interest narratives !
Look out for the commie talking point comments below, regurgitation of commie brainwashed talking point student demonstrations of the late 1960's.
Now israel destroy civil infrastructure like, hospitals, schools, residential buildings, etc. every day and no one cares, world is worst today
America killed the Vietnamese people and killed its own soldiers for nothing but shear arrogance that somehow hi tech bombing & jet bombers can win over a guerralla warfare & viet willpower. Our arrogant leaders forgot US history that US became a nation because of gueralla warfare & willpower ! – STEM+
1) US & Vietnam are now friends, so the war was for nothing.
2) Ho chi Minh in WW2 was a US ally fighting gueralla war against the japanese. He felt that for that loyalty, West should give him all of Vietnam ( ~Manifest destiny). Truman idiotically & arrogantly decided to give South vietnam to the French colonial power who promptly got defeated. – STEM+

The Vietnamese have a right to defend themselves. 🇻🇳
Dad flew F-105's from Korat to Hanoi. The Paul Doumer Bridge Was his 100th sortie. He lead a 20 plane attack on 25 October 1967. He was awarded the AFC for that strike.
Less than 300 pilots have earned the AFC.
Very interesting but why this stupid music
The U.S. political and military misunderstood Clausewitz, who defined strategy as “the theory of the use of combats for the object of the War.” Tactics and strategy are the same, the aim of tactics is strictly to win on the battlefield, but the aim of strategy is to contribute to the political goal of the eventual peace. Both need clear and precisely defined goals. There were no such goals during the war in Vietnam. None whatsoever. Only the military industrial complex had clear and precisely defined goals and consequently walked laughing to the Bank.
