Thailand information – A fifth particular person, a British girl, has died within the methanol poisoning incident in Laos. An Australian girl died yesterday, and a NZ girl can also be in hospital in Laos. Tim questions the position of the native international consulates in not issuing well timed info after being alerted to those deaths and hospitalisations.

If you only gonna drive while you here on vacation etc less than a year, get an international driver license.
You retiring or will stay here, yes get the Thai driver license.
I don't understand their business model of killing off your customers.
wow just listened to the new visa run.2025. Any comments?
yes sad about the kids dying, but alcohol kills about 1,000 per day world wide. (between 3 and 4.5 million deaths yearly) Plus Cannabis never killed any one
"Incident" ? I think tragedy would be a better, more accurate noun to use.
After that, it will effect, or has effect already, all the visa border run issue and policy in general, entering Thailand from Laos….
Friday 23rd? ๐
Hi! Tim…๐๐๐๐
The easiest way to obtain a Thai driving licence, providing you have a valid license from your home country, is to use a legitimate agent, one with an office and a verified reputation. Its not expensive, and they will organise all the relevant documents for you and take you to the registration office and subsequently the test center. The test is laughable in its simplicity, and the agent will bypass you having to watch endless videos.
Thanks Tim ๐
I first her about this methanol spiking was in Bali tourist getting hospitalised and losing there sight
Thanks Tim.
Most of the list of chemicals Tim mentions are permitted in the regular good industry in the Western world. Glycol – antifreeze PGW etc (of course in so called safe – killing me softly levels ) โ ๏ธโ ๏ธโ ๏ธ
True what you say about loa cant face it
We have friends from Laos. They tell us not to pronounce the "s". Lao. Thanks for the news.
Breaking Australian news reports that sadly another Australian girl Holly Bowls from Melbourne has died from methanol poisoning.
If the consulates want to be really useful in Laos, they could walk around the bars with a test kit or two and test the drinks for methanol. The kits aren't cheap, nor are the people wandering around and doing the testing, but compared to the cost and the human tragedy of recent events, the returns would be enormous.
Dr M
just so tragic nitemare about the Laos poisonings. i saw on a youtube update I m think they mentioned there are still six Brits in the hospital included with the other tourists, if I heard correctly. It could also be any one hospitalised there uncertain of how they become ill. How horrific now any parent is going to be going out of their mind with worry over there kids backpacking.
I can remember years ago in Luang Prabang, the Lao 'whisky' (actually a rice liquor) which was made in old oil drums……sure that it was just as unhealthy.
Jerry
Good information today. Could you repost Max's email. I have some questions for him? Thank you
Past few days we have been hearing about the methanol poisoning in Laos but no real report of what the authorities in Laos are doing about it or if any arrest have been made on these mass murder case.
I wouldn't be surprised if those who lost money in icon scam have exaggerated the money lost when reporting their amounts to police.
Driving: If you are informed that your issued drivers license is qualified as an International license. Do not believe it. It is true but the Police have not been told or told wrong. You will be able to rent a car, The judge will understand but the local police will seize it and charge you. I saw a legal example in the ad Tim showed. Do the process anyway and save the hassle and explanations. Note: my information is dated, laws may have changed, do it anyway no matter what. They stop the Thai people at check points for Insurance and Tax registration and no license daily and often. If you drive you will meet the police.
Just don't call tourist police if a deal with a "professional" goes wrong, as they will tell you that soliciting sex work is illegal and you'll be left alone, this is what happens when the authorities actively work to hide something that everyone knows exists.
Methanol first aid
if you suspect Methanol poisoning, consume high content Ethanol until you arrive at a Hospital!
Ethanol has higer kalori count, so your cells will consume Ethanol before Methanol
Murder and deliberate
Merci for the news. Could we see your new electrical car tomorrow, please ? ๐๐ป
Driving licencens in thailand is a joke just pay an agencie and you have it lol
Hi Tim, there is a new "elite visa", a cheaper one, called "bronce"!! Why you didn't report about it? Thanks in advance
You're getting ahead of yourself, Tim. I think you might want to take another glance at your calender (today is the 22nd).
RIP
22nd Nov., (not 23rd) … I remembered that because it's the anniversary of JFK's assasination in 1963.
Never underestimate human greed. Stick to drinking bottled alcohol, avoiding all questionable home made spirits.
It is now 6 deaths, and according to an OZ ABC news report the Thai authorities have confirmed the death was due to a HIGH level of methanol poisoning. Which suggests it was more than one drink! Also if the Hostel gave around 100 free shots, so if it was that drink that was the problem then ALL the people who have died or have been effected should have been staying at this hostel. Very sad outcome. Youngsters PLEASE be aware that these third world countries are very poor and some will do anything to make an extra dollar or 2! Is your life worth taking the risk!!!!
Same applies anywhere in the world if it don't have a cap on it where the seal is broken in your presents don't drink it
I was spiked in veitnam by two woman in a bar but the drug didn't work just made me feel unwell for a few days went to the doctor and he said I had been spiked I didn't tell him anything what had happened he said date rape drug
You don't need a driving licence in Thailand if you have international driving permit and permitted to drive back home my permit is good for 3 yrs
That is in Loas not in Thailand
They would have to drop the driving permit this would be replaced by the Thailand driving licence
Never been done in Thailand for driving whatever always legal always by the book
I tried to get a Thai driving license but I was told over 70 years of age you cannot get.
It was suggested I take a driving test but again I was told. To old.
So if anyone knows different. Let me know. Cheers
Thumbs up ๐ Newtonโฆ.Sad about those tourists in Laos ๐ข
But Thailand is the same many many of bars sell copy spirits
If only we had a herbal alternative to alcohol that didn't kill people, …sigh
๐ค๐๐
Sounds like a bad batch of homemade hooch. Itโs common in Laos. Read up on distilling. When making it can be a byproduct of the process. If the temp isnt correct the methanol will not flash off and will remain in the finished product.
I noticed the patients had to be flown to Thailand for care. If you travel to poor countries like Laos or Dominican Republic with sketchy healthcare systems, act accordingly. Tainted alcohol, motorcycle accidents and food poisoning can kill.
